Setting the foundation for East Africa since 1951
Bamburi Cement was founded in 1951 by Felix Mandl, whose pioneering spirit and persistence after the Second World War led him to settle in Kenya and build a cement works at the coast. It grew into a household name and an industry leader.

Buying Bamburi Cement: Common Questions
Which product to choose, what it costs and where to get it.
What is the cement price in Kenya for a 50 kg bag?
Cement prices in Kenya vary by product, stockist, region and quantity. Indicative retail runs from about KES 720–780 for a 50 kg bag of Fundi up to KES 800–900 for Duracem and Powercrete. Trade prices for bulk orders differ from retail, so contact us for a current quotation for your project.
Which Bamburi cement should I use for a foundation?
For ordinary domestic foundations, Tembo or Nguvu at 32.5 MPa is the usual choice. For heavily loaded foundations, raft foundations or high-rise work, use Powermax at 42.5 MPa or Powercrete at 52.5 MPa. Where the ground is sulphate-bearing or otherwise aggressive, specify Duracem.
What types of cement does Bamburi make?
There are eight types of cement and cement products in the range: Fundi at 22.5 MPa for mortar and finishes, Tembo and Nguvu at 32.5 MPa for general building, Powermax, Duracem and Power Plus at 42.5 MPa for structural work, Powercrete at 52.5 MPa for the heaviest structures, and TectorCeram SETI 300 tile adhesive. Duracem is the sulphate-resisting option for aggressive ground.
What is the difference between 32.5, 42.5 and 52.5 cement?
The number is the compressive strength class in megapascals, measured at 28 days. A higher class reaches a higher strength, which lets you carry more load or use less material for the same strength. It does not automatically make a cement better for every job: Fundi at 22.5 MPa is the right product for plaster and mortar, where a very high strength cement would be wasted.
What is the difference between Fundi and the other Bamburi cements?
Fundi is a masonry cement made for mortar and finishes — block laying, plaster, render and screed. The rest of the range is made for concrete. Use Fundi for the finishing trades and Tembo, Nguvu, Powermax, Power Plus, Duracem or Powercrete for anything structural.
What standards is Bamburi cement made to?
The cement range is manufactured to the harmonised East African standard KS EAS 18-1, adopted from the European norm EN 197-1. TectorCeram SETI 300 tile adhesive is made to KS 1530 and EN 12004.
What size bags does Bamburi cement come in?
The cement range is supplied in 50 kg bags. Fundi is also available in 25 kg bags, and TectorCeram SETI 300 comes in 25 kg woven polypropylene bags. Bulk supply is available for readymix and large projects.

For many decades we have been known for our efforts in quarry rehabilitation and conservation through our environmental arm. Its prominent examples include a nature park and a forest trail, former quarry wastelands that are now rich ecosystems of diverse vegetation and wildlife, including rescued animals. How we're making an impact in the region
Environmental Sustainability
Coastal forests are of critical importance to the country as they support communities by providing much needed ecosystem goods and services including fuelwood, herbs, air purification, water, ecotourism, sports and recreation.
These forests are highly fragmented and under immense threat due to population pressure leading to unsustainable practices like charcoal burning, pollution among others.
In response, we continue to grow and manage forest plantations and ecosystems in both rehabilitated quarries and reserve lands for sustainable utilization, protection and conservation in support of environmental sustainability as a critical component in addressing livelihood concerns for socio-economic development.
We continue to spearhead an urgent culture of tree growing and forest protection among coastal communities to enable the conservation of globally threatened indigenous varieties of flora and fauna for ecosystem goods and services and sustainable livelihoods.
Environmental Rehabilitation
Mined-out quarries are transformed into thriving ecosystems through soil restoration, native planting and long-term aftercare.
Progressive rehabilitation begins while extraction is still under way, so land is returned to nature as early as possible and biodiversity gains are measured against a science-based baseline.
Wildlife Integration
Rehabilitated habitats now support a growing range of species, including rescued animals that are cared for and reintroduced where possible.
Working with conservation partners, we monitor populations and manage corridors so that wildlife and neighbouring communities can coexist.
Ecotourism & Education
Our nature sites welcome visitors, schools and researchers, turning former quarries into living classrooms.
Guided trails and environmental education programmes share experience, expertise and knowledge so that more people can take part in conservation.
